TikTok monetization conditions: Starting from 50,000 followers in Korea, what is the difference from YouTube shorts?
The TikTok Creator Rewards Program requires 50,000 followers in Korea and 100,000 views in the past 30 days, and videos under 1 minute are not eligible for compensation. When placed side by side with the YouTube shorts requirements, we summarized what the 33 times difference is when converted to a daily average, and why the 1 minute line works in the exact opposite way when uploading the same clip to two places.

Key takeaways
- The Korean requirements for TikTok's Creator Rewards Program are 50,000 or more followers and 100,000 or more views in the past 30 days. The age of participation is 18 in other countries, but in Korea it is 19.
- The reward is high-quality original content of 1 minute or more. Clips that do not exceed 1 minute are not included in the reward calculation, no matter how well they run.
- Converting the view count requirement to a daily average, TikTok has about 3,333 views and YouTube Shorts has about 111,111 views. The view count threshold is about 33 times higher on YouTube, and the account size threshold is 50 times higher on TikTok.
- The one-minute line works in reverse on the two platforms. On TikTok, it is the minimum length, and on YouTube, it is the actual upper limit for clips containing sound.
- There is only one section that satisfies both conditions simultaneously. This is a clip that lasts over a minute and uses only the original broadcast sound.
When looking into TikTok monetization, the first number you come across is 10,000 followers. However, the actual threshold for a Korean account is 50,000 followers. Requirements vary by country, and Korea is on the high side. This article accurately summarizes TikTok's Korean requirements and compares where it diverges from YouTube shorts that upload the same clips.
How are TikTok monetization conditions different in Korea?
Over 50,000 followers, over 100,000 views in the last 30 days, and over 19 years of age.

The text revealed by TikTok in Creator Rewards Program Guide] is as follows. "In Korea, the number of followers must be at least 50,000 and the number of views in the past 30 days has been at least 100,000", and those eligible to participate are "18 years or older (19 years or older in Korea)".
There is one more condition on the content side. Rewards are eligible for "high-quality original content of 1 minute or longer". We'll discuss why this condition is especially important for streamers later.
The reward amount is not determined by the number of views. There are four calculation axes revealed by TikTok. Originality, playback time (view time and completion rate), viewer engagement (likes, comments, shares), and search value (metrics assigned based on popular search terms), along with the ad value for each account based on the time viewers spend watching the ad.
How are they different from YouTube Shorts when placed side by side?
The account size is much lower on YouTube, and the number of views is much lower on TikTok. The request is in the opposite direction.

| Item | YouTube Shorts | TikTok (Korea) |
|---|---|---|
| account size | 1,000 subscribers | 50,000 followers |
| Views Requirements | 10 million valid views in the last 90 days | 100,000 views in the last 30 days |
| Views Personality | Subscription Requirements | Requirements for maintaining certification |
| video length | Classified as shorts within 3 minutes | Compensation only applies for 1 minute or more |
| Age | No separate country-specific standards in the document | Republic of Korea 19 years or older |
| Payment Structure | 45% of allocated profits | Calculated on four axes |
| Music Influences | License fee deducted before allocation | No separate deduction structure disclosed |
| Corequisites | 2-Step Verification, No Active Violation Alerts, AdSense Connection | Steady State Personal Account in Regions Where Programs Are Offered |
Changing the numbers to the same units makes the difference clearer.
Convert view count requirement to daily average
TikTok: 100,000 times / 30 days = approximately 3,333 times/day
YouTube: 10,000,000 views / 90 days = approximately 111,111 views/day
→ The view count threshold is about 33.3 times higher on YouTube
Account Size Requirements
YouTube: 1,000 subscribers
TikTok: 50,000 followers
→ The account size threshold is 50 times higher in TikTok
What these two numbers say is simple. TikTok is advantageous to those who already have fans, while YouTube is advantageous to those who frequently release clips. If you are a streamer who has been broadcasting for a long time and have a large fan base, TikTok's follower requirements may be easier, and if you are a channel with few fans but good editing, YouTube is faster.
There's one more thing. YouTube has a separate level of 500 subscribers. Fan sponsorships such as membership and Super Thanks are opened first at that stage, so YouTube is clearly lower in terms of initial entry. Step-by-step requirements are summarized in YouTube Shorts Monetization Conditions.
Why does the 1 minute line work in opposite directions on both sides?
This is because on TikTok, 1 minute is the minimum length, and on YouTube, 1 minute is the practical upper limit for clips containing sound.

TikTok only considers content longer than 1 minute to be eligible for compensation. No matter how well a 45-second clip plays, it will not be included in the reward calculation.
YouTube draws the line in the opposite direction. According to the 3-minute Shorts article "Shorts videos exceeding 1 minute in length and with any type of active copyright infringement complaint, including a direct claim, will be blocked from YouTube globally."
So a 90-second clip with BGM is the worst combination. It satisfies TikTok's conditions, but runs the risk of being blocked by YouTube. There is only one section that satisfies both conditions simultaneously.
It exceeds 1 minute, but only the original broadcast sound is used. If the sound source is removed, YouTube's blocking conditions disappear, and since the length exceeds 1 minute, TikTok's compensation conditions are also met. As a bonus, there is no license deduction in YouTube Shorts revenue distribution, keeping the creator's share at 45%.
It's also important to note that this selection is much easier with broadcast clips than with other edits. The streamer's voice, viewer reactions, and game sounds themselves are content, so it doesn't feel empty even without BGM.
What else should I check when posting to two places?
Watermark and editing order.
TikTok watermarks remain on files edited and exported from TikTok. If you upload the file to YouTube as is, it will be uploaded with other platform logos embedded on the screen. YouTube's Shorts Monetization Policy] clearly states that non-original shorts are excluded from monetization, so there is no reason to take the risk.
It is safer to set the order like this.
1️⃣ Create an edited version from the original first: Cut a section from the broadcast replay to create a 9:16 vertical edited version. In this case, it is completed in the editing tool, not in the platform app.
2️⃣ Upload a file without watermark on both sides: Upload the same file to YouTube and TikTok respectively. The watermark will not be applied unless you make additional edits within the app.
3️⃣ Change only the title and hashtags to suit the platform: Even though the video is the same, the way it is searched is different. TikTok has search value on the reward axis, so title phrases work more directly.
4️⃣ View the first 48 hours separately: It is common for the same clip to only rotate on one side. Which way it turns determines the editing direction of the next clip.
Specifications and upload order for each platform are covered in more detail in Where should I upload my shorts to get views? .
Which one is faster to start with?
It depends on which is ahead: fan size or clip performance.
| Current status | Where to aim first | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| More than a thousand regular broadcast viewers | TikTok | 50,000 followers can be filled with fan movement |
| Few fans but occasional clips | YouTube Shorts | The 1,000 subscriber threshold is much lower |
| Just Getting Started | YouTube 500 people level | Fan sponsorship opens first, so initial rewards are fast |
| Long form is also posted | YouTube viewing time path | 4,000 hours in 12 months is realistic |
Regardless of which one you choose, it is best to make the edit itself into one. A single vertical edit that lasts over 1 minute and uses only the original sound will pass the requirements for both platforms. The values that actually need to be calculated in vertical editing are summarized in Short Form Vertical Editing.
If it is a burden to create the edited version every time from a broadcast replay, ClipSpray takes the entire Tzizyk and SOOP replay and creates 9:16 vertical shorts and 16:9 horizontal clips together. This makes it easy to share the same material across two platforms.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is TikTok monetization available in Korea?
It works. However, requirements vary by country. In Korea, TikTok has advised users to have more than 50,000 followers and more than 100,000 views in the past 30 days, and the age limit for participation is 19 years or older in Korea.
Do I get compensation for 30 second clips?
I don't receive it. The Creator Rewards Program rewards high-quality original content of one minute or more. Short clips are not included in compensation calculations, no matter how many views they receive.
Which has a lower threshold: YouTube Shorts or TikTok?
They have different personalities. The account size is much lower on YouTube, with 1,000 subscribers on YouTube and 50,000 followers on TikTok. Conversely, YouTube has 10 million views in 90 days and TikTok has 100,000 views in 30 days, so when converted to daily average, YouTube is about 33 times higher.
Can I upload the same clip in two places?
This is possible as long as you match the length and sound source conditions. An edited version that exceeds one minute but uses only the original broadcast sound satisfies both conditions. However, you should avoid uploading files with the TikTok watermark to YouTube.
How much does TikTok pay for views?
TikTok does not disclose the unit price per view. Instead, the axis used for calculation was revealed. There are four factors: originality, playback time, viewer engagement, and search value, along with account-specific ad value.
Where should streamers start?
If you already have a lot of broadcast fans, it's easy to meet TikTok's follower requirement, and if you have few fans but your clips pop up frequently, YouTube shorts are faster. However, fan sponsorships on YouTube first open at the 500 subscriber level, so YouTube has an advantage in early entry.
