How many shorts per broadcast? Why 2-3 per 6 hours is appropriate

How many shorts are appropriate for each broadcast? For a 6-hour game broadcast, the standard is 15 to 25 candidate sections and 2 to 3 actual delivery sections. We have organized the rhythm of 5 to 10 uploads per week, the rules for distributing the same broadcast clips, the authenticity policy, and even the calculation of 10 million YPP times.

Key takeaways

  • For a 6-hour game broadcast, there are 15 to 25 candidate sections that will receive a lot of response, but the optimal range is 6 to 10 clips that provide context, and 2 to 3 finished pieces to actually upload.
  • When uploading, rhythm takes precedence over total volume. Both exposure and subscription conversions are more stable if you upload 5 items per week, one per day, rather than 10 items per week in two days.
  • If you upload three clips from the same broadcast in one day, they will eat up each other's views. Immediately send out one topical incident type per day and distribute the rest one per day.
  • The criterion for applying YouTube's 'inauthentic content' policy, which was revised on July 15, 2025, is not the number of uploads, but the difference between clips. Repetition of the same intro, subtitles, and title templates threatens monetization eligibility.
  • The YPP requirement of 10 million views for shorts valid in 90 days cannot be reached even if the number is increased if the average number of views per clip is below 10,000, and the calculation begins to be correct at 67 per month when the average number exceeds 50,000.

When asked how many shorts are appropriate for each broadcast, the answer is two numbers. If it is a 6-hour game broadcast, the candidate section with the most response is 15.~There are about 25 clips, but only 2 are actually completed clips worth uploading.~There are three. If a channel broadcasts 5 times a week, the results will be better if it cuts off 5 to 10 channels per week.

How many shorts per broadcast is normal?

This question is actually a mix of two questions with different personalities. One is supply. How many sections are featured in the 6-hour replay (VOD)? The other is demand. How many posts should I upload per week at the current channel level? The two values almost always deviate, and the actual number of deliveries is determined by their intersection.

When uploading, rhythm takes precedence over total volume. A channel that posts 5 posts a week is more stable in terms of both exposure and subscription conversion than a channel that uploads 10 posts in 2 days and then rests for 5 days. If you are in an environment where you are cutting alone in the early morning without an editor, the number you can keep is the correct answer. On what platform and at what intervals? Shorts Upload StrategyThis is covered in more detail.

channel stageUploads per week recommendedDelivery per broadcastIndicators to prioritize at this stage
New (0~1,000 subscribers)5 to 71-2completion rate
Growth (1,000 to 10,000 subscribers)7 to 102~3Subscription conversion
Stable (more than 10,000 subscribers)5 to 71-2Live and main content influx

Tip: Set your weekly goal as 'minimum you can achieve for 4 weeks in a row' rather than 'maximum you can achieve this week'. A plan that falls apart in the third week is more damaging than failing to complete the number.

How many useful sections will there be in a 6-hour broadcast?

Just because the broadcast is twice as long doesn't mean there's twice as much material. Reactions are not spread evenly over time, but are concentrated in the game and incident sections. Game broadcasts have a climax for each game, so the density per hour is high, while low-density chat is low because there are one or two explosions at the end of a long conversation.

The real criterion for dividing candidates is not ‘Did I have fun?’ but ‘How did Chat and Done move at that moment?’ In CHZZK, cheese, and in SOOP (forest, old Afreeca TV), the point where star balloons are inserted in a row is the point where viewers have already left a response. The same goes for sections where the chat speed jumps to several times the normal speed.

The numbers in the table below are not statistics, but values used on a working basis.

Broadcast lengthcontent typeCandidate section with a lot of responseA clip with contextFinal delivery recommended

8 hoursGame18 to 307 to 122~3

The numbers in the table above are not measured statistics, but values used as editing standards. There is a lot of variation depending on the nature of the channel, so just count two or three times and change it to your own number.

Illustration of a funnel in which 15 to 25 candidate sections in a 6-hour broadcast are narrowed down to 2 to 3 final products through 6 to 10 contextual clips.

The order in which candidates are selected in replays is generally fixed like this.

1️⃣ vote for a candidate: In the VOD timeline, only the chat speed and done splatter points are displayed first (15 to 25 candidates).

2️⃣ Check the context: Open 2 minutes before and after each candidate to see how things stand (reduce to 6-10).

3️⃣ title test: Write a title for each remaining candidate in one line. If you don't use it, you will be eliminated on the spot.

4️⃣ vertical editing: Cut only the 2-3 surviving episodes to 9:16 and add subtitles and titles.

5️⃣ Separate horizontal clips: Materials that require more than 30 seconds of context are separated into 16:9 horizontal clips.

The problem is the time attached to number 1. Even if you watch the 6-hour VOD at 2x speed, it lasts 3 hours, and then there are separate cuts and subtitles. If outsourced, short-form production costs an average of 130,000 won per episode, and video editing costs an average of 140,000 won per episode, based on Kmong's disclosure (Kmong short form video production cost, Kmong video editing cost).

Broadcasting 5 times a week and 2 per broadcast is 40 per month. Even if you calculate the average unit price alone, it is not a scale that an individual streamer can afford. Even if you just skip the step of finding candidates, the number calculation will change. ClipSpray receives the entire replay and selects the sections with the most reactions in chronological order, so the streamer only has to choose what to upload. Can I upload 3 clips from the same broadcast in one day?

If you post 3 videos from the same broadcast side by side that evening, they will eat up each other's views. Because the background, clothes, and tone are the same, it's easy for them to be treated as a group in the recommended feed. Even to someone who is new to the channel, the channel looks monotonous if the top three columns are all broadcast on the same day.

Illustration comparing the method of uploading the same broadcast clip three times a day and the method of uploading one clip per day using a weekly calendar.

The exception is topicality. For scenes where an accident occurred during broadcast or have already been mentioned in the community, freshness means longevity, so if you upload it three days later, it is already dead.

Tip: If you must put on two in one day, choose two with different grains. Combinations that appeal to other viewers, such as funny clips and well-played clips, are less encroaching.

The 3-minute limit is a context budget, not a length permit.

Starting October 15, 2024, square or aspect ratio videos uploaded up to 3 minutes in length will be classified as shorts (YouTube Official Blog). Live clips are often not funny if you don't know what's going on. How many seconds you spend setting up the situation in the introduction determines your completion rate. 3 minutes is not an acceptable length, but is the upper limit of your budget for context.

The view count definition also changed on March 31, 2025. Now, Shorts' 'views' counts the number of times a video is played or starts playing again, and the number of people who continue to watch has become a separate indicator called 'effective views'. The maximum upload resolution is 1080p (YouTube Help Center: Getting started with Shorts). If the incident does not start in the first 1-2 seconds, the number of views will be recorded, but the number of valid views will not follow.

  • Can the explanation of the situation be completed within 10 seconds?
  • Can you see what’s going on even with the sound turned off?
  • Does the event begin in the first 2 seconds?
  • Does one line of subtitles explain the background?
  • Will it end in 3 minutes?

If you pass four or more of the five questions, you'll get shorts, and if you get three or fewer, you'll get horizontal clips. For material with a context explanation longer than 30 seconds, it is better to send it as a 16:9 horizontal clip or full-length highlight rather than a 9:16 short.

The point where the more you raise, the more you lose: Authenticity policy in July 2025

On July 15, 2025, YouTube changed the name of its 'repetitive content' policy to 'inauthentic content'. This amendment clearly states that mass-produced content that is printed like a template and has little change is not subject to profit generation.YouTube Help Center: Channel Monetization Policies). This is the clause that sets the upper limit on how many shorts can be uploaded per broadcast.

There are some parts that are easy to misunderstand. This policy is not ‘if you raise too much, you’ll get caught.’ The problem is the method of mechanically producing 10 videos a day with the same intro, same subtitle style, and same editing rhythm. Clips that contain different judgments at each moment, even if they appear on one broadcast, do not apply here. The criteria for this is not the number of uploads, but the difference between clips.

Itemmass production signalsafety signal
introAll clips have the same 3 second introEach clip has a different starting point
CaptionsUse automatically generated phrasesManually correct typos and line breaks
TitleReplacing only words in template sentencesSentences that only appear in that scene
materialRepeat similar sections to fill the numberThe discarded candidate actually exists
reuploadRepost the same clip with minor modificationsI just take down clips that don't have any reaction.

This is not something to be taken lightly as it is a matter of eligibility for profit generation. In Shorts revenue sharing, monetizing creators receive 45% of the allocated revenue regardless of whether or not their music is used (YouTube Help Center: Shorts Monetization Policy), the 45% requirement is for the policy to pass.

Tip: Try splicing together just the first 3 seconds of the five clips you posted this week. If you can't tell them apart, the template has covered the material.

The requirement for 10 million YPP shorts is met. How many per month will it take?

Requirements for joining the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) are 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 hours of valid watch time in the last 12 months or 10 million views of shorts in the last 90 days (YouTube Help Center: YPP Eligibility Requirements). Starting February 1, 2027, new creators will need to have completed 8,000 hours in the last 365 days or 20 million views in the last 90 days. Creators who are already in YPP will not be affected (YouTube Official Blog).

Calculating backwards immediately reveals whether the number goal is realistic. Let us first clarify that the average number of views per clip below is an assumption for calculation purposes, not an actual measurement, as there is a large variation between channels.

Average views per clip (assumed)Total uploads required for 10 millionTotal uploads based on 20 millionNumber per broadcast based on 20 broadcasts per monthReality judgment

10,000 times1,0002,000About 17virtually impossible
50,000 times2004003~4It's tight but possible
200,000 times50100less than 1possible

Illustration comparing the number of monthly uploads required to reach 10 million views in 90 days when the average number of views per clip is 3,000, 10,000, 50,000, and 200,000.

The result of the inversion is simple. As long as the average number of views stays below 10,000, the number cannot reach the requirement even if you increase it, and as soon as the average number of views exceeds 50,000, the calculation starts to be correct at around 67 per month. As of June 2025, Shorts is viewed on average more than 200 billion times per day, so 10 million is not a number that cannot be reached (YouTube Official Blog: Neal Mohan), it is not a number that is filled by pushing the amount.

Therefore, in practice, the structure of securing a sufficient number of candidates and then narrowing them down based on criteria is safer than filling up the number of candidates. If you look at the evidence to see why a scene was selected as a candidate, how many chats it received, and when Done was crowded, you will be able to make a faster decision than if you choose by intuition (How it works). This is sufficient for leaving 5 candidates out of 20.

  • Does the event begin in the first 2 seconds?
  • Does the context explanation end within 10 seconds?
  • Doesn’t the situation overlap with the clips already uploaded?
  • Does anyone else laugh besides me?
  • Can the title be written in one line?
  • Is it a waste to cut it up and throw it away?
  • Is it different from other uploads this week?

We only post those that pass at least five out of seven questions. Rather than how many shorts you can make per broadcast, how many you can discard is what protects your channel's qualifications for promotion and monetization.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many shorts is appropriate for a 6-hour broadcast?

Based on game broadcasts, the candidate section with the most reaction is 15 to 25, the clips with context are 6 to 10, and the final recommended delivery is 2 to 3. Jeochat has a low density, so even in the same 6 hours, it is realistic to have 8 to 14 candidates and 1 to 2 deliveries, while for mergers or events, there are 3 to 4 deliveries for 20 to 30 candidates.

How many shorts should I put on a week?

The standard is 5 to 7 channels per week for new channels with 0 to 1,000 subscribers, 7 to 10 channels per week for growth stages with 1,000 to 10,000 subscribers, and 5 to 7 channels per week for stable channels with 10,000 or more subscribers. Your weekly goal should not be this week's maximum, but a minimum that you can maintain for 4 consecutive weeks to avoid collapsing in the 3rd week.

Can I upload all clips from the same broadcast in one day?

Not recommended. This is because they have the same background, clothes, and tone, so they are treated as a group in the recommended feed and cannibalize each other's views. Immediately post one topical event type on the day, and distribute the rest one per day. However, if you inevitably post two, choose a combination with a different texture, such as a funny clip and a good play.

Will it be subject to YouTube policy if I upload a lot of shorts?

The number itself is not the problem. The 'inauthentic content' policy, revised on July 15, 2025, excludes mass-produced content that is printed like a template and shows little change from monetization. This does not apply if judgment is made for each clip rather than mechanically repeating the same intro and subtitle style.

Can the shorts be all 3 minutes long?

Starting October 15, 2024, vertical or square footage up to 3 minutes will be classified as shorts, but 3 minutes is not an acceptable length, but rather a budget limit for the context. The explanation of the preceding situation should end within 10 seconds and the event should begin in the first 2 seconds, and any material that requires more than 30 seconds of context should be clipped to a 16:9 horizontal clip.
