Creating a reel from a 3-hour broadcast: How to choose 15 seconds to write and move them vertically

Summary of creating reels for streamers. In a 3-5 hour replay, you first select candidates based on the surge in chat and sponsorship viewing, rearrange 16:9 to 9:16, and then just change the proper noun in the subtitles. It even includes a cost comparison of cap cuts, outsourcing, and automation tools.

Key takeaways

  • The bottleneck for streamers is not editing, but the exploration phase of finding 15 seconds to spend in a 3-5 hour replay.
  • Mark candidate sections with four signals: chat surge, concentration of support, change in tone of voice, and scene change, and narrow them down to 10. Sponsorships are filmed 5 to 20 seconds behind the event, so you'll need to look ahead of the time indicated.
  • When moving from 16:9 to 9:16, the cams and games are stacked top and bottom based on where the viewer is looking at that moment, not the face, and the bottom 20% is left empty for subtitles.
  • The automatic subtitles are only a rough draft, so if you edit four game terms, viewer nicknames, buzzwords, and profanity and save them as SRT, you can reuse them for shorts and clips.
  • As of Kmong's disclosure, short-form production outsourcing costs an average of 130,000 won, and the minimum wage in 2026 is 10,320 won per hour, so spending two hours on one clip will cost 20,000 won in itself.

When pulling reels from a 3-5 hour replay, what really takes up time is not editing, but section selection. The quickest way is to first mark the points where chats were concentrated, the time when donations were made, and the areas where voices were loudest, narrow the candidates down to 10, and then cut them to the free app. When moving the horizontal screen to vertical, it is safer to stack the cam or game up or down instead of throwing it away.

Making reels, why can't streamers do it the way others do?

Most Instagram Reel creation tutorials start with a blank screen. The process involves turning on the camera, taking several 3-second shots, and then attaching them to music. The course on making travel reels is exactly that. I decide in advance what picture I want to take and then move it.

Broadcasters have the opposite starting point. The sauce is already overflowing. 4 hours yesterday, 3 and a half hours the day before. What is lacking is not the material, but the method of finding 15 seconds to use within it.

So, even after watching 10 lectures on making reels, I still don’t feel anything. You can learn how to operate the app after using it a few times, but no one tells you where to drag the play bar in front of a 4-hour file.

How do you choose 15 seconds to use as a reel in a 3-hour broadcast?

Choosing from memory doesn't work well. It was funny during the broadcast, but when I watch it again, most of the scenes require about 30 seconds of context explanation. The section to be used as a release is not a fun moment, but a moment where you can understand the situation in just 15 seconds without any explanation.

The most reliable signal is chat density. The section where the number of chats per second jumps to two or three times the normal level means that viewers reacted at the same time. The baseline varies from channel to channel, so get familiar with your broadcast's usual chat speed first. In the CHZZK or SOOP (Forest) replay, the chat is stuck to the timeline, so you can see the chunks just by quickly scrolling down.

The timing of sponsorship is also a good sign. The time when cheese, star balloons, and ad balloons flocked was a good moment that made viewers open their wallets. However, sponsorship response is slow. Since the picture is usually taken after the incident is over, you have to look ahead of the indicated time.

There is no official figure for the amount of delay. It's more of a rule of thumb that varies depending on the channel size, viewer habits, and sponsorship UI. If you compare the sponsored time with the actual event time in about 10 of my broadcast logs, you will see the average delay for my channel. If you know that value, you don't have to guess the rewind width every time.

Voice and screen signals fill in the gaps when chatting is quiet. Candidates include points where the tone of voice rises, points where the volume suddenly increases, conversely, abrupt silence, and points where the scene changes. Half of the reel creation is done in this step.

  • Chat surge: Marked the area where the spike was two or three times the normal amount. Discard sections that are splashed with advertisements or event information.
  • Sponsorship Focus: I rewinded and watched it again by the amount of delay based on my channel. The screen is still and the sections where only words are spoken are discarded.
  • Voice change: Marks the point where the voice becomes louder or quieter. The section where there is a scream but the cause is not captured on the screen is discarded.
  • Scene Change: Marks the point where the screen changes drastically. Abandon loading and advertising transitions.
  • Repetition meme: Marks a section where the same line is repeated three or more times. You need to know the internal circumstances of the broadcast to discard anything funny.

Tip: When choosing a candidate, try playing it for just 15 seconds with the sound off. If you can read what's going on just by looking at the subtitles and the screen, you pass. If you don't know, rewrite the subtitles or remove them from the list of candidates. This is the fastest inspection method to check subtitle readability.

Why does it look awkward if you cut the 16:9 broadcast screen to 9:16?

If you keep the 16:9 screen height and crop it to 9:16, only about a third of the width remains. The left and right sides of the game screen, chat overlay, and notification window disappear entirely. The automatic crop shown in the tutorial for making capcut reels is designed to follow a single person, so it often gets caught in the wrong place on broadcast screens where both the cam and the game are important.

The criterion is not the face. This is where the viewer was actually looking at at that moment. If the scene of the opposing champion jumping in is the key, the cam can be pushed small, and if the reaction is the key, it doesn't matter if the game screen is blurred. This is the most obvious discrepancy in making reels.

Broadcast screen type9:16 Basic layoutArea that can be cutThings to note
full screen game70% above game, 30% below camScreen left and right marginsIf the minimap is key, crop there
Low chat with a large proportion of camsFill only the cam verticallyBackground and left and right overlaysIf hand movements are the point, take your time
Hapbang and Dain screenAbove the speaker, below the responseSilent participantUp to two screen transitions per clip
Viewer Participation ScreenAbove the game, below the chat captureNotification overlayCheck whether you agree to display your nickname

Tip: Leave about 20% of the bottom of the vertical canvas empty for subtitles. On Instagram, the account name, description, and music information are overlapped at the bottom, so if you put subtitles there, they won't be read.

How much should I improve the subtitles?

It is correct to use automatic subtitles only as a rough draft. YouTube automatic subtitles are available in over 60 languages, including Korean. However, the live stream's automatic subtitles are only available in English.

Conditions that prevent creation itself are also provided. If the sound quality is poor, the voice cannot be recognized, or the video is too long, it goes here (YouTube Help Center). Broadcast audio, where game sounds overlap with voices and the running time is long, tends to fall into that condition. Therefore, it is better to assume that you will fix the subtitles selected from the replay from the beginning.

In Korean broadcasts, there are certain places where automatic subtitles are often incorrect. Game terms, item names, viewer nicknames, buzzwords of the month, and slang. When making reels, subtitles are the main text, not decoration, so changing just these four things will drastically change the level of completion.

It is better to save the proofreading results as an SRT file. YouTube Customer Center also recommends that if you are creating a subtitle file for the first time, you should use SubRip (.srt) or SubViewer (.sbv) format (YouTube Customer Center). When re-uploading the same section in the Shorts and Czizyk clips, there is no reason to re-write the subtitles from the beginning.

  • Unification of proper nouns: Game terminology and item name notation have been unified.
  • Check nickname: The spelling of sponsor and viewer nicknames was compared with the original.
  • Line Length: One line is cut short and does not exceed two lines.
  • Overlap check: Subtitles do not overlap with the game UI or app buttons.
  • Sync: Subtitles do not appear before the words.
  • Silent reading: When played with the sound turned off, the content is read only with subtitles.
  • Hook Sentence: I rewrote the sentences in the first 1-2 seconds myself.
  • Save original: The SRT file was saved with the clip number.

Tip: Instead of correcting subtitles while playing the video, open SRT with a text editor and replace proper nouns in batches. In most cases, the same typo is repeated three or four times in one clip.

Which should I choose between capcut, outsourcing, and automation tools?

If you start with the free range, it is quite generous. Cut breaks, subtitles, music insertion, and vertical cropping are largely solved in the free version of CapCut. However, the free features may vary depending on the app version, region, and policy changes, so please check directly within the app before paying.

Even within the Instagram app, you can join clips, auto-subtitle, and even specify a cover frame. There is no reason to install multiple free options for reel creation apps.

What the release creation AI tool actually reduces is navigation and rough editing. Deciding on tone, final cut length, and hook sentences are still up to you.

When choosing a tool, check the upper limit of the video length. Opus Clip has a limit of 10 hours and 30GB of files (Opus Clip document), and Vizard has a limit of 10GB per 600 minutes (Vizard document). The Opus Clip official document notes that some languages, including Korean, are still beta, so emojis and highlighted keywords may be inaccurate (Supported Video Languages).

If you don't have time to create short forms during a long broadcast replay, ClipSpray can help. If you just enter the address of Chzzk, SOOP, YouTube, Twitch, or Seeme replay, we will read chat and sponsorship responses to find editing points, and organize cut edits, SRT subtitles, and vertical short forms into a report. Free and Light analyze up to 8 hours per video, Pro and Max analyze without length limit, and use 1 ticket per short form (Value and Restrictions).

It is worth using the data released by Kmong as a baseline for outsourcing prices (Kmong for short-form video production, Kmong) for video editing. As you can see in the graph below, the lowest and highest values are more than ten times greater. If you set your budget based on just the average, it can easily deviate, so it is better to first decide on the number of clips and the scope of the subtitle work and then get a quote.

Illustration showing the 6 stages of release production in order, from replay navigation to cover upload.

If you put a value on your time, it becomes easier to judge. The minimum wage applicable in 2026 is 10,320 won per hour (Ministry of Employment and Labor). If you spend two hours on one clip, you're burning 20,000 won worth.

ClipSpray plans are Free (10 passes), Light 29,000 won per month (50 passes), Pro 89,000 won per month (160 passes), and Max 179,000 won per month (330 passes) (Price Plan). If one broadcast is based on 10 short forms, the number of broadcasts covered by each plan is as follows.

Bar graph comparing the lowest, average, and highest costs of Kmong public short-form production and video editing outsourcing.

There are six steps that go through to complete a release.

  1. Swimming the replay: Even if you watch a 3-hour broadcast at 2x speed, it will take 1 hour and 30 minutes, and if it is 4 hours, it will still last 2 hours.
  2. Candidate Confirmation: Play the marked points for 15 seconds each and reduce them to 10.
  3. Cut Edit: Trim the beginning and end and cut out any loose parts.
  4. Vertical Reposition: Position the cam and game. Leave the bottom subtitle space blank.
  5. Subtitle correction: Select automatic subtitles and correct proper nouns first.
  6. Cover and Upload: Designate an expressive frame as the cover, not the first frame.

Numbers 2 to 6 are fixing tasks attached to a single clip, so the number increases as per the number. No matter how many clips you make, clip 1 is included only once for the length of the broadcast. Where the 3-5 weekly routine breaks down is navigation, not editing.

Should I upload the created reels only to the reels?

Distributing YouTube shorts, Chzzk clips, and TikTok from the same source costs less compared to the influx. Starting October 15, 2024, YouTube will classify square or vertical ratio videos up to 3 minutes as shorts (YouTube Official Blog), and the maximum resolution for shorts uploads is 1080p (YouTube Customer Center). Once you create a release, recycling itself is closer to copying files.

However, there are some items that should not be posted as is. Videos with watermarks from other apps, subtitles that ignore the bottom safe area, and descriptions that clearly show the platform name. On July 15, 2025, YouTube changed the name of the 'repetitive content' policy to 'inauthentic content' and clarified that mass-produced content that is printed like a template and has little change is not subject to monetization (YouTube Customer Center). It is safe to avoid uploading the same clip multiple times by changing the title.

Each platform's specifications change frequently, so please check again with the official documentation before uploading. Chzzk is a platform operated by Naver, and the domestic search share in 2025 is estimated at approximately 62.86% for Naver and 29.55% for Google (Internet Trend). If you include the game name and broadcast name in the clip title and description, it will attract additional search traffic.

Tip: Use different first sentences for each platform. For reels, the subtitles on the screen are read first, and for shorts, the title is read first. Even if you leave the video as is and just change the text, your reach will vary.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you choose which sections to use as reels in a 3-hour broadcast?

Rather than relying on memory, first mark points where chat activity rises to two or three times its normal level, donations cluster, voices get louder or fall silent, or the scene changes sharply. Preview 15 seconds from each marked candidate and narrow the list to ten or fewer. Judge whether a viewer can understand the moment in 15 seconds without extra context, not just whether it is entertaining.

Why does it look awkward when I crop a 16:9 broadcast screen to 9:16?

If you leave the height as is and cut it vertically, only about a third of the width remains, and the left and right sides of the game screen and chat overlay disappear entirely. Capcut auto crop is designed to follow a single person, so it is easy to get caught in the wrong place in broadcasts where cam and game are important at the same time. Stack cams and games top and bottom, and position them based on what your viewers are actually looking at at that moment.

Can I use automatic subtitles as is?

It is correct to use it only as a rough draft. YouTube provides automatic subtitles in over 60 languages, but if the sound quality is poor or the video is long, it will not be created at all. Broadcast audio that overlaps game sounds and voices falls under exactly that condition. Just changing the game terminology, item names, viewer nicknames, buzzwords, and slang can make a big difference in the level of completion.

How much does it cost to outsource release editing?

The short-form video production cost revealed by Kmong is a minimum of 20,000 won, an average of 130,000 won, and a maximum of 340,000 won, and video editing costs a minimum of 20,000 won, an average of 140,000 won, and a maximum of 370,000 won. This is reasonable when completeness is the top priority, but if you repeat 3 to 5 items every week, the burden increases. Even if you make it yourself, if you spend two hours on one clip based on the minimum wage of 10,320 won per hour in 2026, you will burn 20,000 won worth of time.

Can I upload the reel I made as is on YouTube Shorts?

Starting October 15, 2024, YouTube will classify any aspect ratio video up to 3 minutes as shorts, so recycling itself is more of a file copy. However, other app watermarks, subtitles that ignore the bottom safe area, and descriptions that leave the platform name intact need to be addressed. As YouTube changed its name to the 'inauthentic content' policy on July 15, 2025, avoid uploading the same clip repeatedly by changing the title.
