Reasons why editor recruitment is inconsistent, from division of work to unit price and settlement

Recruitment of editors is differentiated not by the wording of the notice, but by the division of editorial duties. We decided whether to entrust it to finding an editing point, cut editing, subtitles, vertical conversion, or thumbnails, and even organized a notice form with the unit price per episode and settlement date written in numbers, a recruitment channel, and a test editing scorecard.

Key takeaways

  • After dividing the editing work into five parts: finding an editing point, cut editing, subtitles, 9:16 vertical conversion, and thumbnails, you have to decide what to entrust first to proceed with recruiting editors.
  • The most time-consuming step for a 4-hour broadcast is finding editing points (2-3 hours), but it requires the least amount of skill, so it can be eliminated through automation or pre-organization.
  • In the notice, the original length, number and specifications of results, unit price per episode, and settlement date must be written in numbers. Phrases such as ‘Unit price will be determined after consultation’ and ‘Revision until satisfied’ will prevent applications.
  • The unit price is set between the lowest converted hourly wage of 10 and 320 won in 2026 and the Kmong public average (130,000 won for short form and 140,000 won for editing), but if a timestamp is also provided, a better applicant will be selected with the same budget.
  • For test editing, it is advantageous for the submission rate to adhere to the standards such as 30-minute section, 60-second short form, and 48-hour deadline, and to score 5 items such as matching editing points, cut breathing, subtitles, compliance with specifications, and deadline, and paying the assignment fee.

The success or failure of recruiting editors is determined not by the moment an announcement is posted, but by the moment the editing duties are divided. First decide which of the five pieces - finding edit points, cut editing, subtitles, vertical conversion, and thumbnails - will be entrusted to a person. If you write the range, unit price per episode, and settlement date in numbers in the announcement, applicants will attract and the contract will last for a long time.

Divide the editorial work into five pieces before recruiting editors

When I edit a 4-6 hour broadcast by myself, 5 days a week, it's hard to tell where my time is going. If you break it down into stages, their personalities are quite different. The time in the table below is not a statistic, but an approximate distribution when editing one 4-hour replay.

stepsTime required for one 4-hour broadcastRequired SkillsOutsourcing suitabilityAutomation suitability

Finding an editing site is the most time consuming and actually requires the least skill. On the other hand, even though cut breathing and thumbnails take less time, human senses determine the results. If you do not differentiate between the two and lump them together as “general editing,” the unit price goes up to include the driving time, and applicants feel burdened and withdraw.

The most common reason why editor recruitment fails is not because the wrong person was chosen, but because the notice was posted without deciding what to entrust.

Tip: When editing your next episode, turn on a timer for each step and write down the actual times. That number serves as the scope of work in the announcement and serves as the basis for unit price negotiations.

Editor recruitment notice, what is the difference between articles that receive applications and those that do not?

What makes the difference is not the wording, but the presence or absence of numbers. Without the unit price, original length, and required number of pieces, applicants cannot calculate the hourly wage. It is difficult to give an estimate for something that cannot be calculated, and then you only get a few inquiries instead of support.

  • Channel name, broadcast concept, main audience
  • Original length per episode and number of episodes to be edited per week
  • Number and specifications of required results (e.g. 3 9:16 vertical short forms, approximately 60 seconds)
  • Subtitle inclusion and subtitle style criteria
  • Whether SRT subtitle file will be delivered separately
  • Unit price and calculation standard per episode
  • Settlement date and method of settlement
  • Material delivery method (replay link, cloud folder, etc.)
  • Limit on number of modification requests
  • Draft closing cycle
  • Contract type and document preparation
  • Scope of portfolio needs and means of contact

There are also certain phrases that block support.

  • "Unit price is decided after consultation": Applicants postpone their application because hourly wages cannot be calculated.
  • "A person with sense": This can be read as meaning that there is no grading standard. This is a sign that corrections will increase infinitely.
  • "Revisions until you are satisfied": The unit price per episode is virtually unlimited labor.
  • "Someone who will grow together in the long term": The impression that they are trying to replace low unit prices with vision.
  • "Those who can start today": This is a sign that they are recruiting in a hurry without preparation, so talented applicants are left out first.

The notice format that can be rewritten as is is as follows. The key is to write down the number of broadcasts, the number of episodes subject to editing, and the number of monthly episodes so that they match each other.

[Recruiting Chzzk editors] Game broadcast short-form editing
- Channel: Czizyk Game Broadcast, broadcast 5 times a week (4-6 hours per episode)
- Edit target: One episode per week out of five is designated on the day of broadcast.
- Duties: 3 vertical short-form episodes of 9:16 per designated replay (approximately 60 seconds, subtitles included)
- Material delivery: Replay link and section timestamp delivered by the morning of the next day
- Draft deadline: 3 days after delivery of materials
- Delivery: mp4 and SRT subtitle files, file name is date_sequence.
- Edit: once per episode
- Unit price: KRW 10,000 per episode, 3 episodes per week, 12 episodes per month
- Settlement: 15th and last day of every month, account transfer
- Support: DM by writing down 2 portfolio links, tools used, and number of available episodes per week

Since it is structured to only deliver once a week, the number drops to 3 per week, or 12 per month over the 4th week. If you increase the editing target to 2 episodes a week, it becomes 24 episodes per month, so it is safer to set a budget first and adjust the number of episodes accordingly.

Tip: If you feel uncomfortable disclosing the unit price, at least write down the range. If you write something like “30,000 to 50,000 won per episode, adjusted depending on the length of the original and the amount of subtitles,” inquiries that do not meet the conditions will be filtered out first.

How much is the right amount to charge for the first short form?

There are two things that affect the unit price more than the difficulty of editing. Who finds the original length and editing points per episode? Even if it is the same 60-second short form, the editor's actual work time varies several times depending on whether the entire 4-hour original is handed over or a timestamp is provided.

The following amounts are not the results of a market survey, but are a baseline calculated from public data. One is minimum wage applied in 2026 hourly wage is 10,320 won, the other is short-form video production cost average of 130,000 won and video editing cost average of 140,000 won] revealed by Kmong.

16 fixed monthly episodes (short form)48 hours495,360 wonNo dataWeekly Schedule

The "minimum wage conversion lower limit" in the table is the assumed working hours multiplied by the hourly wage of 10,320 won. If it is 3 hours, it is 30,960 won, if there are 8 fixed monthly flights, multiply 8 times 3 hours by 10,320 won, which is 247,680 won, and so on. This number is not the market unit price, but rather a floor line that says “we will not offer below this”.

This is a flowchart dividing the 4-hour broadcast editing task into five steps and estimated time.

The market unit price is set somewhere between this bottom line and the Cmong public average. Kmong's average price of 130,000 won includes platform fees, consultations, and time to get estimates, so direct personal transactions are usually negotiated below that. However, if you call it near the lower limit, the editor with the most work will be eliminated.

Here's how to calculate the number of episodes from your budget.

  1. Monthly budget ÷ unit price per episode = number of episodes per month. 400,000 won per month and 40,000 won per episode is 10 episodes.
  2. Number of episodes per month ÷ 4 weeks = Number of episodes per week. 10 episodes means 2-3 episodes a week, so it's a scale where you can rewatch once a week.
  3. Conversely, you can also fix the number of pieces first. If you sign a contract for 3 episodes a week and 12 episodes per month at 40,000 won per episode, you will need 480,000 won per month.

If you write something like “40,000 won per episode, 12 episodes per month, payable at the end of each month” in the editor recruitment notice, applicants will complete the calculations themselves. If you only write down the total monthly budget and leave the number of episodes blank, the calculation will be blocked.

Tip: Reduce the originals before raising the price. If you cut out sections instead of watching the entire 4-hour replay, you can get better applicants for the same money.

This is a bar graph comparing the number of broadcast episodes that can be covered with tickets for each plan.

Where should I post the editor recruitment notice so that people can come?

The personalities and ways of thinking are different for each channel. Before refining your announcement text, choose a site that fits your budget and broadcast size.

Recruitment from viewersLesslowmiddlelowWhen understanding broadcast context is most urgent

If you are recruiting editors for the first time, it is realistic to assign the assignment to three or four people in the open KakaoTalk recruiting room and then stick with one of them on a monthly basis. Kmong's unit price increases, but payment and dispute processing are completed within the platform, so it can be used as a safety device for the first contract. If you pick one from among viewers, their level of understanding of memes will be the highest, but you must take into account that it will be difficult to talk about deadlines and settlements due to their closeness.

Skills that are not visible in the portfolio, how can I check them with test editing?

A portfolio is a collection of only the best results, so you can't know whether it's "suitable for my broadcast." This is why test editing is necessary when recruiting editors. The assignment is designed as one 30-minute section.

  1. Cut a 30-minute section from a recent broadcast replay and send it as a link.
  2. Nail the specifications in sentences. 9:16 1 vertical short form, approximately 60 seconds, includes subtitles, submission deadline 48 hours.
  3. Applicants are asked to choose the editing point themselves, and are given two lines explaining why they chose that section.
  4. Also determine the submission format. mp4 file and SRT subtitle file, file name is nickname_date.
  5. Write down in advance whether or not the assignment fee will be paid and the amount in the notice.

Don’t just look at the results you receive by feel, but grade them for each item. The score is out of 30, and only the edit points are doubled.

  • Does the editing point overlap with the section my viewers actually reacted to (10 points)
  • Does your cut breathing become sluggish? (5 points)
  • Are the subtitle typos and syncs correct? (5 points)
  • Did you follow the requested specifications (ratio, length, file name) (5 points)
  • Did you keep the promised deadline (5 points)

It is recommended that you pay the assignment fee. The task of selecting one short-form episode in a 30-minute segment takes a generous 2 hours, including searching for editing outlets. Calculated at the minimum wage of 10,320 won per hour, it is 20,640 won for 2 hours. If you write down that you will pay this amount regardless of whether it is adopted or not, you will see a noticeable difference in your submission rate. If you do it without pay, editors who already have work will quietly get out.

Also ask about the tools the applicant uses. Editors who mainly use Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve have a high degree of freedom in subtitle style and screen composition, while editors who use Vrew work quickly on subtitles. Vrew operates four tiers of plans, including Free, and annual subscriptions are 20% cheaper than monthly payments (Vrew Plan). It is a good idea to decide who will bear the cost of the tool at the announcement stage.

Tip: The reason we double the points for edit points is because the time it takes to proofread varies. Cut breathing and subtitles can be figured out in a few weeks based on feedback, but it takes much longer to get a feel for the funny points of my broadcast. If you score below 20 points out of 30, it is better to look at the next applicant.

How do you create a long-lasting collaboration routine without diving in?

Where a contract breaks down is usually management, not skill. When the original text arrives late, the editors only exchange words, requests for revisions continue for three days, and the settlement date is unclear, the editor quietly disappears. Having this fixed weekly routine will reduce accidents.

  1. A replay link and a list of edit points will be posted in one place within 24 hours after the broadcast ends.
  2. Draft deadline is fixed at 72 hours after material delivery.
  3. Requests for corrections are sent once, together with a timecode.
  4. Settlement is made twice: on the 15th and the last day of every month. Please organize the number and amount of items in a table and send it to us.

It is best to send edit requests in the same format every time.

  • Original: VOD linkWow Section(00:41:20 ~ 00:44:05)
  • Result: 9:16 vertical 1Side, 16:9 cut edited version 1Side
  • Subtitles: SRT file delivered separately
  • Deadline: March 12, 23:00
  • Note: Because this is a section with a high response to donations, the cut starts right before the Done notification.

Verbal agreements are only convenient if you have good relationships. Most disputes can be prevented if only the copyright and scope of use of the material in a one-page document, scope of secondary use of the edited version, unit price and settlement date, limit on the number of modifications, processing standards in case of loss of contact (e.g., stop settlement of undelivered items if there is no response for more than 5 days), and the obligation to delete the material at the end of the contract. Please also specify the subtitle file format in advance. YouTube Customer Center recommends that if you are creating a subtitle file for the first time, you should use SubRip (.srt) or SubViewer (.sbv) format (YouTube Customer Center).

A significant portion of the editor's unit cost comes from the time it takes to review the original four hours from scratch. If the streamer eliminates that part first, the scope of work listed in the announcement narrows, the required skill level decreases, and the applicant pool expands. This is where the difficulty of recruiting editors decreases.

If you don't have time to create a short form while watching a long broadcast, ClipSpray is here to help. If you just enter the address of Chzzk, SOOP, YouTube, Twitch, or Seeme replay, we will read chat and sponsorship responses to find editing points, and organize cut edits, SRT subtitles, and vertical short forms into a report.

In Chzzk, SOOP, YouTube, and Seemi, we read the sections with the most chats and the times when cheese, star balloons, and ad balloons were included. Other than that, I use points where the voice and volume rise, and points where the scene changes, as signals. The report includes the ranking of each section, time range, reason for selection, and quotations of key lines, so it can be pasted directly into the edit request.

You spend 1 ticket for 1 short form, and 1 broadcast costs 10 tickets as it is based on 10 short forms (Pass and restrictions). This is what happens when you convert the tickets for each plan into broadcast episodes.

However, this does not eliminate the need for human editors. Designing the channel concept, understanding community memes and context, and refining the thumbnail, title, and final cut are still the responsibility of humans. Automation can take over even “where to cut”, but it is humans who know “why it’s funny.”

Tip: Put requests back and forth with the editor in one channel (whether a Notion page or KakaoTalk room). Most settlement disputes begin with “what was said.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it necessary to disclose the unit price in the editor recruitment notice?

Editors read the announcement within 30 seconds and decide whether or not to apply, but without the unit price and original length, it is impossible to calculate the hourly rate, so they just skip it. If disclosure is burdensome, write down a range such as ‘30,000 to 50,000 won per episode, adjusted depending on the length of the original and the amount of subtitles.’ Then, inquiries that do not meet the conditions will be filtered out first.

What is the appropriate price for editing one short-form episode?

The unit price depends more on the original length per episode and who finds the editing points than on the difficulty of editing. Converting to the minimum wage of 10,320 won per hour in 2026, the lower limit for 3 hours of work including editing store browsing is about 30,960 won, and the average public short-form production on Kmong is 130,000 won. Individual contracts are lower than average due to the absence of platform fees, but if you call them near the lower limit of minimum wage conversion, skilled applicants will not apply.

Where is the best place to post an editor recruitment notice?

If it is your first time, it is realistic to send test editing to three or four people in the Open KakaoTalk editor recruitment room and then work with one of them on a monthly basis. For Kmong and Sumgo, the unit price goes up, but payment and dispute processing are completed within the platform, so they can be used as a safety device for the first contract, while If you pick a person from among viewers, their level of understanding of memes will be the highest, but you must take into account that it will be difficult to talk about deadlines and settlement.

Can’t I just look at the portfolio and make the selection?

The portfolio is a collection of only the best results, so I don't know if it's suitable for my broadcast. Cut a 30-minute section from a recent replay and run a test edit that meets the standards, such as one 9:16 vertical short form, about 60 seconds, including subtitles, and a 48-hour deadline. You can get a feel for it if you receive two lines explaining why you chose the edit point.

How do you stop your editor from diving in the middle?

Where a contract breaks down is usually management, not skill. Set a weekly routine by delivering the material within 24 hours of broadcast, drafting due 72 hours after the material is delivered, requesting one revision at a time, and settling on the 15th and last day of each month. Most disputes can be prevented with just a one-page document containing copyright and scope of use, unit price and settlement date, limit on the number of modifications, and standards for handling when contact is lost.
